More than a (gut) feeling

Modern phrases like "butterflies" or "gut feeling" are more than just sayings, but reflect a real gut–brain link.

And from an immunological standpoint, gut problems have a tremendous impact on our mental health, beginning as inflammation, and then manifesting as effects on mood.

This is because the brain and gut communicate via the gut–brain axis. And when that communication breaks down, it can harm both physical and mental health and daily life.

This notion is at the core of Ayurveda, which says:

“You’re not just what you eat; you are what you digest and assimilate”
